SHOW REPORT

The 94th and 95th All India Championship Dog Shows of Mysore Kennel Club, Bangalore-A Report

It had always been a wish to have Championship Dog Shows (CDS) of Mysore Kennel Club, Bangalore in the royal city of Mysore, home to the Founder Patron -The Maharaja of Mysore - of the Club. And then it happened that the Mysore Pet Association invited the current Patron Dr. B. C. Ramakrishna to judge the Pet dog show in Mysore. Taking this opportunity and seeing the enthusiasm of the local pet association and dog breeders, a meeting was held to see whether Championship Dog Shows of Mysore Kennel Club, Bangalore could be held in Mysore city with the active cooperation of the people of Mysore and the outcome was that they heartily accepted to help and cooperate with the Mysore Kennel Club, Bangalore to hold Championship Dog in Mysore city.

The Show Venue

The proposal to have a Ch. DS in Mysore cit y was ratified by the executive committee of the MKC, Bangalore and necessary permission was obtained fro the Kennel Club of India (KCI)-the parent body. A local committee was formed with Sri. B.P. Manjunath, as Chairman with local members along with the Club President and Hony. Secretary. The Mysore Dasara Exhibition Authority was kind enough to permit MKC, Bangalore to have the Ch. dog shows on the spacious exhibition grounds. Senior judges from the KCI panel namely Mr. D. Krishnamurthy and Dr.Mathew C. John .accepted the assignment of adjudicating in the Ch. Dog Shows scheduled for Mysore City along with seasoned Ring Stewards M/s N. Santhosh and Geo Chacko.

( R ) Mr. D. Krishnamurthy judged the 94th show and (L) Dr. Mathew C .John the 95th show
And then started the budgeting for the shows with involvement of the local committee and members of MKC, Bangalore in writing to the prospective exhibitors all over the country for entries and to pet food manufacturers and Pharma companies to showcase their products and to help us in return. It was the usual process, in that the entries started to trickle and then flood as the last date neared. and many entries could not be to be accepted as we had reached our limits. The total number of entries
were 430 exhibits representing some 35 plus breeds and the rare ones were the Tibetan mastiffs, New found land, Miniature Schnauzer, Miniature Pomeranian, Groenendals etc along with the ubiquitous GSD’s, Retrievers both Golden and Labrador, Mastiffs, Dobes etc

The Show Rings were located towards the eastern boundary of the Mysore Dasara Exhibition grounds with the Chamundi hill as a  backdrop. The  Show   Rings  were  spacious with a   carpet of
grass and the exhibits were benched in spacious shelters all round the rings. And fortunately for us there was a huge all weather hanger which accommodated one of the rings and many of  the   exhibitors   with their canine wards. Rain was   imminent the monsoon season with overcast skies, but again fortunately for us and all dog lovers, the Sunday 28th August 2011 dawned bright and beautiful with the Sun playing hide and seek behind passing clouds.

The shows started on time being inaugurated by Mr. Sunil Agarwal, Commissioner of Police, Mysore and Mr. K. S. Raikar, Commissioner, Mysore City Corporation. The shows took off with Mr. D. Krishnamurthy judging the 94th show and Dr. Mathew C .John the 95th show ably assisted by Ring stewards Sri. N. Santhosh and Sri. Geo Chacko respectively. The shows progressed smoothly with the various breeds being fed regularly into the ring for judging different classes and groups and the judging was completed on time. The much awaited final line up being the grand finale for the day was eagerly looked forward to by the dog lovers and the results are as follows:
